CPR and AED Certification: Your Path to Lifesaving Skills

Every year in the United States, nearly 356,000 people suffer cardiac arrest outside of hospitals, 20-40% of whom die before they reach a hospital, according to the CDC. Cardiac arrest requires quick intervention, and so the sooner someone experiencing cardiac arrest receives CPR and defibrillation, the better their chance of survival.

Becoming trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) operation makes you someone who can step in in an emergency situation and save someone’s life. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, their chances of survival lie in the hands of those around them. While calling the emergency services is crucial, having someone there with CPR and AED training dramatically increases their chances of survival.

Why Learn CPR and AED Operation?

CPR and AED operation offer critical lifesaving skills. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) involves chest compressions and rescue breaths to manually preserve brain function until further treatment is possible. Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are sophisticated devices that analyze the rhythm of the heart and deliver electric shocks, if necessary, to return the heart rhythm to normal.

In the event of cardiac arrest, rapid response is absolutely critical. Brain death starts within minutes of the heart stopping, and so every second counts. While emergency responders jump into action, they take 8-12 minutes to arrive after dispatch, and there’s additional time added for those on the scene to react and call 911. Someone with CPR knowledge and AED training can revive someone in cardiac crisis and keep them alive until paramedics arrive.

Miami First Aid’s Training Approach

Miami First Aid’s courses are designed to be accessible and efficient, typically lasting 2-3 hours. Each participant receives their own CPR dummy, ensuring hands-on practice without delays. Courses are held in central, easy-to-reach locations in Miami, typically at hotels.

While our in-person courses are the best way to learn these skills, we offer training through a range of formats:

  • In-Person Training: Conducted in traditional classroom settings, these sessions combine lectures with hands-on skills practice under the guidance of experienced instructors.
  • Online Courses: Offering flexibility, these self-paced modules cover emergency response essentials. However, note that they do not include a hands-on skills demonstration.
  • Blended Learning: This innovative format merges online learning with in-person skill sessions, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

Alongside CPR/AED training, First Aid training is also available, addressing a variety of emergency situations. This training is crucial for effectively responding to different types of medical emergencies.

Course Details and Certification

Our CPR/AED training courses are designed to equip students with skills for handling first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. This training is ideal for individuals needing OSHA-compliant certifications or satisfying other regulatory requirements. The blended learning format includes an online portion accessible on various devices, which must be completed before the in-person skills session.
